Natural Way to Remove Bikini Hair

The thought of putting on a bikini can be dreadful to those with excess hair along the bikini line. Waxing and depilatories can eliminate hair quickly, but the chemicals in these substances can irritate the skin and leave an unattractive residue. As an alternative to unsightly rashes and allergic reactions, consider natural hair removal methods. Using only gentle ingredients to remove hair, these techniques are safe and work well for the bikini area.

  1. Sugaring

    • Remove hair with sugaring, which eliminates hair with a sticky, sugary paste made of all-natural ingredients. Similar to waxing, a warmed sugaring mixture is spread across the hair to be removed in the direction of the hair growth. Immediately after a cotton strip is adhered to and smoothed over the paste, it is pulled away in the opposite direction of hair growth. Although it can sting a bit when the hair is pulled out, sugaring is not as painful as waxing because it does not contain ingredients that stick to the skin. Also, sugaring is easier to wash off than waxing because it does not leave a chemical residue. Although results will vary from person to person, the effects of sugaring typically last for four to six weeks.

Professional sugaring services and at-home kits are available, but you can also make your own sugaring paste. Simply combine 1/4 cup water, 2 cups sugar and 1/4 cup lemon juice in a saucepan, and then heat mixture until boiling. Let mixture cool to warm before using. Dust the skin with cornstarch or flour, apply the warmed sugaring paste with a wooden tongue depressor and then spread on strips of cotton about 1 to 1 1/4 inches wide.

    Epilation

    • Yank out embarrassing pubic hairs with epilators. From simple tweezers to sophisticated epilators with several rows of tweezers such as the Braun Silk-epil Xelle, epilation removes hair from the root to produce long-lasting, hair-free results. However, epilation can be painful and painstaking, as it only works on a few hairs at a time. Epilation works best when hair is between 2 and 5 mm--trim hairs with scissors with necessary. Also, make sure your skin is dry and free of creams.

    Natural Waxes and Creams

    • Look for waxes and other hair removal products that use plant-based ingredients, instead of petroleum products like paraffin or chemicals such as sodium calcium. If purchasing home sugaring or waxing kits, seek hair removal products with reusable applicators. If using professional services, find eco-friendly salons that use natural wax or sugar.
