How to Make Neck Hair Stop Growing

There are several ways to prevent neck hair from growing. These include easy methods that you can try at home, and more expensive methods that require professional assistance. Physical hair removal is a relatively cheap method, and done repeatedly, it may stop hair growth all together by weakening hair follicles. Other methods include electrolysis and laser treatment.

Preventing Neck Hair from Growing Back

Use tweezers to pluck the hairs. This is an effective but taxing form of hair removal, and it is difficult to reach every hair.

Use wax, another common method of physical hair removal. This method requires heating the wax and spreading it in the direction that your hair grows. The wax then cools and sticks to hairs. When the wax is pulled off, the hairs stick to it and are removed as well.

This method allows the removal of large amounts of hair at once. However, as with the use of tweezers, it is necessary to wait until the hairs grow long enough to stick to the wax. Be sure to follow the instructions on the box, and especially, make every effort to avoid burning yourself with the wax.

Use a hair removal device. An Epilady machine is also an effective method of physical hair removal. These machines are either battery operated or plug into an electrical outlet. The Epilady is made up of many minuscule tweezers that open and close as the machine is moved over the skin in an upward position. Much like waxing, the Epilady removes hair from several spots at once, though the hair needs to be long enough to be trapped by the mini-tweezers.

Try electrolysis. Electrolysis is the only method that has been approved by the FDA for the permanent removal of hair. Electrolysis is a procedure in which a small needle is inserted into the hair follicle to electrify the root. This burns the root, preventing it from producing more hairs in the future. Electrolysis should not be done at home and should be performed by a professional. This method may require numerous treatments and will not work for everyone. Possible side effects of electrolysis include pain and infection.

Try laser treatments. Some authorities say laser hair removal works best for light-skinned people with dark hair. Like electrolysis, laser hair removal can be expensive and requires several treatments. Though laser treatments may not completely prevent hair from growing, they do slow the regrowth of hair. Laser treatments may lighten or darken skin, so ask about these and any other potential side effects before beginning treatment.
