You may have unfinished wood furniture in your office, living room or even your kitchen. From computer desks to accent tables, you can buy unfinished furniture for just about any room in your house or business. Unfinished wood furniture is inexpensive, easy to care for and can be painted if you don't like the finish. The best cleanser for unfinished wood furniture is an ammonia, water and vinegar solution.
Mix 1 gallon of warm water, 1 cup of ammonia and 1/2 cup of white vinegar in a bucket. Stir the solution with a scrub brush. The ammonia, water and vinegar solution will not warp or damage the unfinished wood surface. The solution will remove dust, dirt and caked-on grime
Apply the ammonia, water and vinegar solution to the unfinished wood surface with a sponge or clean cloth. Scrub down the wood surface and use slight force to remove any caked-on stains and grime. Rinse the unfinished wood surface with a cloth soaked in warm water. Make sure you wring out any excess water from the cloth and rinse the wood surface completely.
Dry the piece of unfinished wood furniture with a cotton cloth or paper towels to absorb any excess water. Do not let the solution or any water sit on the wood surface. Unfinished wood furniture absorbs water quickly. So, you need to work fast to absorb the rinse water from the wood surface.
The ammonia, water and vinegar solution can also be placed in a spray bottle and used for daily or weekly cleaning of your unfinished wood furniture and other unfinished surfaces. Use a funnel to pour the solution into a spray bottle. The strength of the solution will weaken over time, so it is best to use the solution within one week. Shake the spray bottle gently to mix the ingredients and then spray the solution onto the unfinished wood surface.
If your piece of unfinished wood furniture has any pen or marker marks on it, use a 150-grit piece of sandpaper to lightly sand the mark away before cleaning the surface. You can also sand the wood surface to make the unfinished wood shiny and like new.
