Common beauty regiments have become relatively androgynous. Many things that were conventionally only part of female beauty regiments are now those used by men as well. Leg hair removal for men is done for a variety of reasons, ranging from preparation for sporting activities to vanity and, in all situations, it is important to know how to do it effectively and consistently.
The First Leg Shave
Removing leg hair on men is not much different than women, except that men have much thicker hair and often less smooth skin. To adjust, you have to focus on repetition.
Start by using an electric razor to do the preliminary shave. This will get the excessive hair areas and make the remainder just a series of sparse overlaying patches. This is also where you will mark the general area in which you want to actually shave. You can also use scissors on more dense and long areas.
Next, you do a more traditional leg shave combining shaving cream and a regular razor, the best of which will be found under the more traditional women's hair removal products. Remember, men's leg hair is going to be more stubborn so you will have to repeat shaving strokes. Since you are dealing with more coarse hair, it is important to use a very sharp razor.
Details and Maintenance
Once you have finished your first shave, assess areas affected by razor burn. Use an aftershave gel if needed.
If you are having trouble with leg stubble, or obtaining a close shave, consider a hair removal cream like Nair. This can be effective at maintaining your leg hair removal longer without having to repeat the process. Waxing is also very efficient, yet it will be painful and have more independent elements that can cause problems.
Decide how long you want to maintain the leg shave before you continue to the regular shaving regiment. You are not going to want to shave every day---or even every few days---so determine how fast your leg hair will grow. If you need to remain hairless, figure out how often you can comfortably shave and try to use an alternative method between shaves.
