Cruise Line International Association (CLIA) works for the interests of those involved in the cruising industry. It also holds training and certification courses for CLIA-affiliated travel agents. If you work for a CLIA-member travel agency, it might be worth your while to obtain a CLIA photo ID card. Valid for one year, this card is proof of your CLIA affiliation and helps to establish your credibility within the industry.
Your agency's CLIA membership must be current. In addition, you will need to have passed the CLIA training program, available in person or online. Travel agents must also have obtained or are in the process of obtaining an "Accredited" (ACC), "Master" (MCC), "Elite" (ECC) or "Elite Scholar" (ECCS) designation through the CLIA Cruise Counselor certification program. However, the certification requirement is waived if you are the owner or manager of a CLIA member agency.
You can complete the CLIA photo ID card application online. Printable applications also are available for download through the CLIA website (see Resources), which can be mailed or faxed.
Fill out the application completely. This includes your contact information, that of your travel agency's, as well as your travel agency's CLIA membership number. Provide your CID number, proof of your completion of a CLIA training program, Cruise Counselor certification program, if applicable.
You will need to include a 2-inch by 2-inch color passport photo along with your paper application. Write your name and CLIA membership number on the back. If you are completing your application online, you can upload a copy of your passport photo as a .jpg file.
The application will need to be authorized by the owner or manager of your travel agency.
As part of their CLIA Travel Agency Membership, agency owners and managers are entitled to up to four CLIA photo ID cards at a reduced rate of $29 each. Travel agents can also enroll in CLIA's Travel Agent Membership program, which entitles them to one card at the same rate. If you are eligible, note your promotional code or agent key included with your membership package on the application. The standard rate for a card is $49. This is payable either by credit card or a money order made out to CLIA.
