Instructions For a Bridal Hair Bun

The exact instructions for a bridal hair bun depend on which of the many styles you choose. Bridal hair buns are the most popular hairstyle for brides across the globe. They can be tight, loose, simple, elaborate, high, low, braided, twisted, decorated or plain. As long as you use the proper tools and appropriate style, the results tend to be attractive on any face shape or hair type.

    1. Choosing

      • The bridal hair bun that works best for you will depend on your hair length and hair decorations. The more elaborate the bun, the more volume and length your hair will need. If you choose to wear a veil, know where it will be attached to the head and if the bun should be above or below that area. If you plan on skipping the veil and wearing a decoration, such as a flower or tiara, also think about the decoration and bun positioning.

      Tools

      • The most important tools for creating a bridal hair bun are an appropriate brush and strong bobby pins. An appropriate brush simply means a quality brush/comb/pick suited for your needs. For example, if your bun style requires parting the hair with sharp lines, you're going to need a small, sturdy comb. If the style requires brushing the hair back in a smooth and even shape, you're going to need a flat brush.

Strong bobby pins are a vital part of creating an attractive and secure bridal hair bun. Though combs and barrettes can help shape your hair, they cannot secure the overall style the way bobby pins can. Use plain metal bobby pins that remain hidden in your hair for a simple style or decorated bobby pins that peek out from your tresses for a fancy style.

      Styles

      • The most popular bridal hair bun is a simple chignon. The hair is pulled straight back and twisted into a simple, flat, smooth bun at the nape of the neck. It is secured with bobby pins and can be worn plain, decorated or with any veil. A messy chignon is created in the same manner, except you should pull some strands of hair loose around the face and let the tips of your hair spike out from the bun.

A popular and elegant bridal hair bun style is the French twist. The hair is pulled back into a ponytail at the nape of the neck and twisted upward into a smooth coil. The ends of the hair are tucked into the coil and the entire look is secured with bobby pins. It can be worn plain or decorated. It can also be worn with high or low sitting veils. However, veils that attach toward the middle of the head look awkward with French twists.

A fancy bridal hair bun with curls is very popular for middle and low sitting veils. The style starts by pulling the hair into a slick and high ponytail toward the back of the crown. The ponytail is divided into five to eight sections. Each section is curled into a large and tight coil pinned in place to create a round bun shape.
