Maytag ovens come in electric, convection and gas models. Some models come as a combination of microwave and conventional ovens. Maytag makes wall-mounted oven models as well as ovens with a cooktop, which can be electric or gas. Regardless of your Maytag oven model and make, follow these operating instructions.
Remove and discard all packing materials. Have a qualified technician install all gas and electrical parts. Never block or cover the oven vent, and do not store plastic containers in or on the oven. There may be a distinct odor and some smoke the first few times you use your oven. If you notice odors or smoke and you have owned the oven for some time, it may need cleaning.
Maytag ovens comes with baking and broiling options. Set to either bake or broil, and then set the temperature. When baking, preheat the oven for 10 to 15 minutes before placing the food inside. Use lower racks for roasting whole poultry or bread. The middle racks are well suited for smaller baked goods like cookies or cakes. When preparing two or more dishes simultaneously, use two racks. Allow the heat to circulate by placing the dishes on different racks and opposite sides, not one right on top of the other.
For best baking and roasting results, place the cookware and food in the middle of the oven. Dishes that touch the walls while cooking could result in an unevenly browned or cooked finished product. Use the broiler to cook meats or to finish browning some foods. The broiler preheats in much less time than in baking mode, and only needs three minutes to be ready. Leave at least 3 inches between the broiler and the food you are cooking. Pieces of meat that are more than an inch thick should be placed on a lower rack. Set the included oven timer to the desired time and check the food as soon as the bell rings.
Once the oven has cooled, use a soft dishcloth moistened with water and dish washing detergent to wipe away spills. If the control panel shows fingerprints or grease, wipe it well using a non abrasive cleanser on a sponge or rag. You can also use a non-abrasive cleanser to wipe down the porcelain black or white oven exterior. Use a stainless-steel cleaner if your Maytag oven has a stainless steel exterior.
Maytag self-cleaning ovens have a lever to lock the oven door shut while you are using that feature. Since the oven will reach extremely high temperatures while self-cleaning, keep children well out of the way of the oven door or control panel. If your Maytag oven is not self-cleaning, you may use a spray-on oven cleaner. Only spray and clean the interior of the oven after it has completely cooled.
