Home Remedy for Inside Jaw Bite

Save

An inside jaw bite can happen in an instant, and can be quite painful and aggravating. Eating too fast is many times the cause for the injury, and treatment of the wound should be done carefully to avoid further pain and discomfort. Finding an effective home remedy for an inside jaw bite is important to keep an infection from occurring.

Ice

Ice should be the first line of treatment for a inside jaw bite. Not only will it help alleviate the pain, but it can also help reduce or eliminate any swelling that can occur. Keeping the swelling down will help to prevent any further damage and bites to the inside of the cheek. Apply an ice cube directly to the bite within minutes for maximum effect. If the ice is too cold or sticks to your wound, try wrapping it in a slightly damp washcloth or paper towel.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Rinsing with two percent hydrogen peroxide soon after the bite occurs will help keep the injury sterile and free of infection. Create a diluted rinse by mixing 1 tbsp. of hydrogen peroxide with 1 tbsp. of water. Swish the mixture in your mouth for 1 to 2 minutes once a day to help keep germs from getting into the affected area.

Pressure

If the area is bleeding, apply a sterile (clean) gauze or clean finger to the area to stop it. Be sure the item applying pressure to the wound is sterile in order to reduce the chances of infection. Apply the pressure for 5 minutes, checking for bleeding periodically.

Brush

Brushing your teeth as soon as possible after the inside jaw bite occurs is beneficial to help remedy the injury. Gently brushing over the area, as well as your teeth and gums, will help prevent the spread of germs in the mouth. The wound will heal quickest when not irritated by harmful germs. Also, try rinsing your mouth with germ-killing mouthwash. This can numb the pain of the wound as well as clean bacteria out of the affected area.
