Fastest Way to Detox Your System

Aches and pains, digestive problems and unexplained fatigue are some of the physical cues that a body is in need for detoxification. Detoxification is a centuries-old practice that cleanses and nourishes the body from the inside out. Removing the toxins and replacing them with healthy nutrients protects the patient from disease and recharges their health.

Basics

  • Detoxification uses several methods to naturally cleanse the body. Among them are giving internal organs a break by fasting, stimulating the liver to flush out toxins, improving the blood's circulation and replenishing healthy nutrients in the system. The idea is to clean the body on the cellular level. The process begins by slowing down the toxin intake. Alcohol, cigarettes, coffee, saturated fats and refined sugars should be removed from the diet. The same goes for chemical-laden household cleaners and health care products (soaps, deodorants, toothpastes). Use natural alternatives instead. Use yoga and meditation to slow down the toxins released by stress.

Types

  • There are many detoxification programs available, but most take about seven days. Most include a diet heavy on water and fresh fruit and vegetable juice intake. Fasting may be involved for the first two to three days. When eating resumes, the menu includes lots of fiber, including brown rice and organically-grown fresh fruits and vegetables. Cabbage, broccoli, artichokes, beets and seaweed are considered excellent detoxifying foods. The liver's needs are taken care of through consuming herbs such as dandelion root, milk thistle, burdock and drinking green tea. Supplementing the diet with Vitamin C boosts the liver's production of glutathione, which drives out toxins. Meanwhile, detoxification may include hydrotherapy techniques such as taking hot showers for five minutes, followed by 30 seconds of cold water. Do this three times, then lay in bed for 30 minutes. Sweating in saunas eliminates waste through perspiration. Dry-brushing skin with special brushes removes the toxins embedded in pores. Finally, exercising and practicing yoga are good ways to focus the mind and relieve stress.

Considerations

  • There are a few daily steps that can be taken to slow toxin accumulation. Turning off the TV, for example, gives the mind time to think and enjoy a few minutes of silence. Taking in some fresh air by going for a walk or reading a book outside can keep the body fresh, too. Spend time with family. Take natural supplements and vitamins on a daily basis. Drink lots of water to continuously flush out the system.
