Many of Moen's faucets come equipped with a filter to purify your tap water. These filters may be located inside the faucet or under the sink, and they require the use of a special filter cartridge. To keep the faucet's filter operating properly, you must periodically remove the existing cartridge and install a replacement.

    Interior Filters

  1. Start by locating the hot and cold water supply lines leading to your faucet. Turn the knobs on both lines clockwise to shut off the water supply. Lift the faucet's handle to allow any residual water to drain from the fixture. Grip the faucet's spout and turn it counterclockwise until it points upwards. Pull the spout towards you; it should come free with the old cartridge attached. Detach the old cartridge from the spout and dispose of it.
Align your replacement cartridge's nozzles with the spout such that the smaller nozzle will sit at the bottom of the spout. Insert the spout-and-cartridge assembly into the faucet, with the spout facing upwards. Turn the spout clockwise until it faces downwards into the sink. Turn the knobs on your hot and cold water supply lines counterclockwise to restore water flow to the faucet.
Push the faucet's filter button and hold it in place for 10 seconds. The faucet's filter light should emit a series of green flashes to show the filter's life indicator has been properly reset and that the filter is ready for a new flushing period. Lift the faucet's handle and turn on the cold water. Push the filter button and wait five minutes for the running water to flush out the new cartridge. When the filter light flashes green repeatedly, you may turn off the cold water.
The faucet is now ready for use.
  2. Exterior Filters

  3. If your faucet comes equipped with an exterior filter located under the sink, start by turning off the hot and cold water supply lines. Turn on the faucet to allow any residual water to drain. Place a towel and a bowl or bucket under the filter to catch any falling moisture. Turn the filter cartridge clockwise until it unlocks, then remove the old cartridge and insert the replacement cartridge in its place. Turn the newly-installed cartridge counterclockwise until it locks in place. Dispose of the old cartridge, then turn the hot and cold water supply lines back on. Turn on the faucet's cold water tap and allow it to run for approximately 15 minutes to finish preparing the cartridge for use.
