Sea salt is a natural alternative to harsh chemical laxatives. Unrefined sea salt is preferable to refined table salt because it contains minerals that our bodies need. Sea salt laxatives are also used as folk remedies for colds and respiratory infections. Most people prefer to use the sea salt laxative in the evening so as not to be disturbed by work or other commitments. The laxative may be taken in the morning, but be prepared to stay home all day.

Boil one quart of water. Let water cool to tea temperature (about 70 degrees). Mix two teaspoons of unrefined sea salt into the water.

Drink the salt and water mixture. Drinking salt water can be difficult for some people. Add lemon or lime juice to offset the taste if this is an issue.

Wait for the laxative to run its course. Make sure you are near a bathroom, as the laxative works quickly.

Tip

  • Other juices besides lemon or lime may be used to mask the flavor of the salt. Try using orange, grapefruit or pomegranate juice. Any strongly flavored juice will work.

Drink the juice quickly. This will reduce the unpleasantness of drinking two quarts of salt water.

Stay near a bathroom until the laxative has run its course.

Tip

  • Consult your doctor before starting a new health regimen.

Do not use the sea salt laxative if you have cancer, ulcers or digestive illnesses.

Be careful if you have high blood pressure, as increased salt intake can raise your risk for a stroke or heart attack.
