Owners of black appliances often complain about water spots on black range tops. If the top is not completely dry after it's been cleaned, the water spots remain and make the range top look dirty. Water spots are often hard to remove after they have dried. There are many products as well as natural solutions to remove and prevent water spots on black range tops.

    Soap and Water

  1. Wash the range top with hot, soapy water. Rinse well with hot water after washing to remove all remaining soil and soap residue. Dry thoroughly with a lint-free cotton cloth. Dish towels that are washed and dried with fabric softener may leave streaks that are caused by the fabric softener that remains in the cloth after washing and drying.
  2. Microfiber Cloths

  3. A microfiber cloth can be used to dry the range top after washing thoroughly. These cloths are lint-free so they will not leave lint behind when they are used. Paper towels often leave lint and streaks. If you choose to use microfiber cloths that are washable, rinse them in clean water and hang them to dry.
  4. Vinegar

  5. White, distilled vinegar works best for black range top water spot removal. It is inexpensive, and that saves you from having to buy special products. Wash the range top with hot, soapy water to remove all residue. Rinse well with hot water. Pour a little white vinegar on a cloth and buff the range top to a shine.
  6. Do Not Use Abrasives

  7. Abrasive powders and cleaning products such as baking soda or scouring pads will scratch the finish on a black range top. Abrasives will not remove water spots and may leave a powdery residue behind as well. If the range top is soiled with food that's hard to remove, wet a dish cloth with hot, soapy water and lay it on top of the soiled area to soften the dried-on food. Rinse the rag in hot water and rub the soiled area gently until it is clean. Dry thoroughly with a lint-free cloth or wipe with a cloth that has been slightly dampened with white vinegar.
