Many of the same herbs that are used to treat painful menstruation or premenstrual issues can be used to reduce sexual urges. Herbs used in this manner are referred to as anaphrodisiacs. Many herbs used to ease anxiety and relax muscles can also be used to deter sexual appetite. These herbs are typically available in tea form, and while they may decrease sexual urges, they should not be used on a long-term basis without consulting your doctor.

    Chasteberry

  1. Chasteberry or vitex is commonly found in tea form, and is widely used to treat problems associated with menstruation and painful periods. It can also help treat premenstrual syndrome. Likewise, it can decrease libido. Look for chasteberry tea in your local health-food store and follow label directions. It is also available in capsule or tablet form. Chasteberry is safe to use on a daily basis.

  3. Valerian is usually used to treat sleep disorders and provide relaxation. It can also be used in the form of tea as an anaphrodisiac. Look for valerian tea in health-food or grocery stores. It is also available in supplement form. While not proven to produce long-term results, valerian is safe for daily use.
  4. Skullcap

  5. Skullcap is another herb that has shown promise in diminishing libido. Traditionally used to treat muscle spasms, anxiousness, anorexia, headaches and sleeplessness, it can also be used to decrease sexual desires. Take skullcap in the form of a tea or supplement. Skullcap is readily available at most health-food stores.
  6. Marjoram

  7. Marjoram is commonly used in cooking and is thought to reduce sexual desire by relaxing muscles and easing menstruation issues. Add it to food as you are cooking help decrease libido.

  9. If you have difficulty finding these herbs in local commercial establishments, try your local farmers market; often you can find dried, bundled herbs for use in teas and foods. Likewise there is an abundance of online resources that sell fresh and dried herbs for use in cooking or for medicinal use.

    While these herbs are generally considered safe, it is important to consider possible side effects, such as impotency, that can occur with extended and extreme use. Consult with your physician if you are concerned about libido or other health issues before embarking on an herbal treatment plan.
