Eczema is an itchy, flaky, allergy-related rash that is typically seen behind the knees and inside the folds of the elbows. The itching can become severe, causing lesions on the skin which can scar. Once the eczema lesions have healed, marks can remain on the skin, which can make the skin appear blotchy and uneven. To remove these scarred marks, a few natural treatments can be used.

    Loosen Scarred Skin

  1. Scarred skin is more stiff that the surrounding skin, and most be loosened for it to be scrubbed off easily. To soften the skin, an oil should be applied that will soften the skin without clogging the pores, such as olive oil. After the oil has been applied, the skin should be steamed, which will further loosen the scarred areas. Pour 1 tbls. of oil into the hands, and massage the oil onto the area of eczema scarring for two minutes. Lay a steaming washcloth over the area until the cloth cools down completely, then wipe away the oil. Use an oil skin softened up to three times per day.
  2. Slough Off Scarred Skin

  3. The newly loosened eczema scars can be sloughed away by massaging the area with a mildly abrasive substance that will not damage the skin. Baking soda makes an ideal exfoliate, which will lift off dead skin cells without scratching the skin. Mix 2 tbls. of baking soda with 1 tsp. of water. This will make a paste. Massage the paste gently onto the area of eczema scarring for one to two minutes, focusing on the scars that are the darkest, then rinse the area off well with warm to cool water. Use a baking soda scrub once per day.
  4. Tone Skin

  5. Freshly scrubbed skin should be toned with an acidic toner that contains vitamin C to return the skin to its naturally acidic pH, and to help the skin rebuild new skin cells. Lemon or lime juice can be used in a concentrated strength to properly tone the skin after it has been exfoliated. Fill an empty and clean spray bottle with lemon or lime juice, then spray the skin well after it has been scrubbed. Allow the juice to dry onto the skin. Use the toner every time after using the baking soda scrub, and up to three times throughout the day to improve skin cell turnover.
