An infected scalp can cause itching in the hair and scalp as well as hair loss. Scalp infections and the secondary symptoms of scalp infections are are easy to treat and prevent with a regimen of natural and inexpensive home remedies that can be found in the drugstore or the supermarket.

    Medicated Shampoos

  1. Wash the hair using medicated shampoos designed for controlling dandruff, head lice, and fungus in the hair and on the scalp. Shampoos containing coal tar, ketoconazole, salicylic acid or zinc can control and treat conditions such as scalp psoriasis and fungal infections that can cause hair loss.
  2. Vinegar Rinse

  3. Rinse the hair with a solution of half apple cider vinegar and half water after shampooing. With your fingertips, massage the solution onto the scalp. Leave the solution in the hair for one to five minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water. Allow the hair to air dry before using a brush or comb for styling.
  4. Multivitamin

  5. Use a multivitamin containing at least 15 milligrams of zinc, along with a biotin supplement and a saw palmetto supplement. These supplements work along with shampoos and vinegar rinses to prevent infections in the scalp and hair. Multivitamin supplements can also reduce and in some cases reverse hair loss
