Human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) is a hormone that is produced naturally by the body during pregnancy. It is used as a part of infertility treatment protocol to induce ovulation from mature egg follicles. The hCG might be prepackaged in a loaded syringe, or it might arrive in powdered form and need to be mixed before use. Mixing hCG needs to be done carefully to ensure that the correct dosage is recieved when the shot is administered.

    Preparing

  1. Set out the materials you will need to mix your hCG on a clean, flat surface. You will need a syringe with replacement needles, alcohol swabs, the vial of hCG powder and a vial of diluent. The diluent might be included with the hCG, or you might elect to use sterile water from a medical supply company. Do not use tap water or regular bottled water.
  2. Mixing

  3. To mix the hCG, remove all sealants and plastic from the diluent and the hCG powder vials. This will leave a permeable stopper on the top of the bottle. Draw back the syringe to the 1cc mark, pulling 1cc of air into the syringe. Pierce the stopper on the bottle of diluent with the needle, and push down on the syringe plunger, pushing 1cc of air into the diluent.

Hold the syringe in one hand and the bottle of diluent in the other. Make sure the diluent is above the needle. Pull back on the plunger to draw 1cc of diluent into the syringe. Remove the syringe from the diluent.

Pierce the stopper on the bottle of hCG powder and inject 1cc of diluent into the powder. Remove the syringe and set aside. Swirl the contents of the hCG vial until the hCG powder is dissolved in the diluent and all clumps of powder are gone.

Holding the hCG vial in one hand and the syringe in the other, pierce the hCG vial. Keep the hCG vial above the needle, and withdraw all of the hCG liquid into the syringe. Remove the syringe from the hCG, and discard the used needle. Replace the needle with a fresh needle. Holding the syringe with the needle pointing upward, tap the side of the syringe to dispel any air bubbles and depress the plunger until one or two drops of liquid are expelled. The hCG is now ready for injection.
