Losing weight is one of the healthiest things a person can do for overall health, because being overweight or obese increases the likelihood of many serious conditions such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Many people try expensive diet plans and buy overpriced fitness equipment in an attempt to shed pounds, but with discipline and a good plan it is possible to lose weight and save money in the process.

    Healthy Weight Loss

  1. Weight loss is simple and difficult at the same time. It is simple in that all you need to do is burn more calories than you eat. It is difficult because many people have poor eating habits, and working out takes physical effort and mental focus. That said, the best way to lose weight while staying healthy is to pursue a regimen of regular aerobic activity while eating a healthy diet that is low enough in calories to result in a net loss of calories every day. The great thing about weight loss is that it can be extremely inexpensive. For instance, if you have a bicycle or running shoes, you can bike or run to increase aerobic activity, while reducing the amount of food you eat will help you cut down on monthly food expenses.
  2. A Workout Plan

  3. One of the reasons people fail to lose weight is that they go about weight loss half-halfheartedly without making a tangible commitment. An important part of weight loss is a plan that helps you commit to and work toward your goals. A weight-loss plan should include a schedule of weekly aerobic activity to increase calorie burning. Aim to do at least three workouts of 30 minutes or more; if your fitness level is low, start with simple exercises such as brisk walking, slow jogging or cycling. Over time, create more ambitious workout goals by trying more strenuous exercise such as running or by increasing the duration and intensity of your workouts.
  4. Portion Control

  5. As healthy as it is to increase your calorie burning, you will not lose weight if you cannot control your eating. Controlling calorie intake is the single most important part of weight loss--just eating a single cookie or a handful of chips can give you more calories than you would burn from running fast for 10 minutes. Therefore, controlling portion sizes and eliminating needless snacks, especially snacks containing a lot of sugar and fat, is imperative. Aim to eat breakfast every day and at least two more meals, but never eat until you feel full or stuffed. Instead, eat just enough to satiate your hunger, and consume healthy snacks such as fruits and vegetables to curb hunger between meals if necessary.
