Tendergreen Bush Beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) are strong, heavy-yielding, smooth green beans that are excellent fresh, canned or frozen. This particular heirloom variety dates back to 1933 and can be grown virtually anywhere from garden to container. If you choose, you can plant new crops every two weeks in order to have a continuous supply throughout the growing season.

    Growing Tendergreen Beans

  1. It is not necessary to poleTendergreen beans. The plants grow to only 2 feet tall and are considered a bush bean. Plant Tendergreen beans at least 1-inch deep and 2 inches apart, making rows at least 2 feet apart. Maturation takes between 60-70 days.
  2. Pole Variety Beans

  3. Some of the most popular green bean varieties that require poling are Kentucky Blue, Romano Italian and Kentucky Wonder. Other varieties include Blue Lake, Climbing French, Painted Lady and Sunset Runner. Pole beans can be supported by trellises, stakes and even sown among sweet corn, with corn stalks acting as the poles.
