Allergies

An itchy nose is a common symptom of allergies. During an allergic reaction, histamine is released. This is responsible for the itchy feeling felt in the eyes, nose and throat. If you are experiencing an itchy nose as a result of allergies, the best remedy is an antihistamine medication. Antihistamines cancel out the effects of histamine on the throat and nose, which provides temporary relief from irritation and itching. Unfortunately, antihistamines often cause drowsiness, which may be a problem if you need to stay alert. If your allergies persist throughout several months of the year, you may also want to speak with your doctor about nasal steroids, such as Nasonex. Nasal steroids are inhaled into the nose, where they provide relief from congestion, sneezing and runny and itchy nose. Nasal steroids are aimed at treating people with severe or excessive allergies.
Common Cold

Any itchy nose is one of the first symptoms of the common cold. Unfortunately, there are no known cures or treatments, but certain solutions may provide relief. Ensure that the air in the house is not dry, as this will cause further irritation of the nasal passages--use a humidifier to keep the air moisturized. Irrigating the nasal passages frequently with salt water can also help reduce the irritation and relieve the itching. Cold medicines can also help relieve a variety of common cold symptoms, including an itchy nose.
Psoriasis

Facial psoriasis is a skin condition that can cause itchiness around the eyes, nose, forehead or lips. Occasionally, psoriasis may affect the inside of the nose as well. An itchy nose due to psoriasis should be treated carefully--the skin is sensitive to harsh chemicals and treatments. Most commonly, your doctor will prescribe topical steroids, also known as corticosteroids, which reduce inflammation and swelling associated with an itchy nose. When using a topical steroid, it is important to follow the manufacturer's directions closely. Improper use may result in damage to the skin and internal organs. If you believe psoriasis is causing your itchy nose, you should speak with your doctor regarding with topical steroids.
