The foyer is the first room guests of your home will see, so lighting is important to set the ambiance. For small foyers, a larger light or chandelier is inappropriate because the ceiling may be low or the lighting will overpower the room. Many options are available for lighting a small foyer that are elegant, functional, and complementary to your decor.

    Ceiling Light

  1. When you have a small foyer, you need to choose the most effective lighting from a small fixture. Ceiling pendants are ideal because they sit close to the ceiling yet offer transitional light from the foyer to a living room. Pendant lights are economic choices, and they come in a variety of glass shades and styles. Art deco, stained glass, frosted, or simple styles can complete the room and still keep it elegant.

Track lighting is also effective for a small foyer, especially if you have works of art or other displays you want to showcase. Track lighting looks modern and provides ample light to a small space.
  2. Wall and Floor Light

  3. Sconces are an option if you want subtle lighting in a small foyer. You may also use the sconce to provide additional lighting to a room if you are using a ceiling fixture, which can enhance the ambiance of the foyer. A simple floor lamp may also be an option if you are able to keep it out the pathway to the door. Floor lamps come in a variety of styles, including modern, casual, and art deco or even as part of a shelving unit to display pictures or knick-knacks. Most retail stores offer a good selection of floor lighting at an affordable price.
  4. Personal Style

  5. Since the foyer is the place of first impression, select a light fixture that exudes your personal style as well as the style of the home. If the lights are constantly on for accent rather than function, try getting energy efficient bulbs and fixtures that are Energy Star certified. These fixture options are more economical because they use less energy and money to run, and they still come in stylish options for any home.
