A clogged drain is a common problem in many homes. Commercial drain openers contain chemicals that may be harmful to you and the environment. It is better to use an all-natural and environment-friendly solution to remove the clogging in your drain. You can make this solution out of simple ingredients found right in your kitchen---so there's no need to run to the store for a clog remover.

    Benefits of Homemade Drain Solutions

  1. All-natural is the way to go these days. We must do everything we can to help save the environment. By using homemade solutions to remove the clog in your drains, you are doing your part in saving the environment. Homemade solutions do not contain harmful chemicals found in most drain cleaners and decloggers sold in stores, which can pollute the air as well as our water source as they wash down the drain. They can also pose a serious risk to your health especially if you do not take extra precautions when using these chemicals. If you use homemade solutions, you don't have to worry about the effects on your health---because there are none. Homemade solutions are absolutely safe for you and the environment.

Homemade solutions for unclogging drains are also budget-friendly. They will not cost you a single cent since all the materials needed to make the solution can be found right in your kitchen. You do not need to spend a lot of money just to keep your drains free from clog.
  2. Baking Soda and White Vinegar

  3. For moderate clogs, pour ½ cup of baking soda down the clogged drain. Follow it with ½ cup of white vinegar. The baking soda will react immediately with the white vinegar creating foam. The foaming solution will also emit fumes, but you don't have to worry because they're harmless.

Let the solution soak through the clog. Put the drain cover in place so that the foam does not seep out. Let the vinegar and baking soda solution sit in the drain for about 30 minutes. After the recommended time, pour down a gallon of boiling water. If it still does not drain properly, repeat the process until the clog is gone.
  4. Salt, Baking Soda and Cream of Tartar

  5. Mix together 1 cup each of baking soda and table salt with a 1/4 cup of cream of tartar. Stir continuously until you get an even consistency in the solution. If you mix a large batch at once, the mixture can be stored in a jar for weekly use. This will not only remove existing clogs, but also prevents future clogs from forming.

Pour 1/4 cup of the mixture into the clogged drain, followed by one to two cups of boiling water. Wait 10 seconds for the mixture to reach the clog, then flush the drain with cold water. This mixture should sufficiently clear your pipes in a non-corrosive way, and without releasing harmful chemicals into the water table.
