The most common type of psoriasis is plaque psoriasis. A person with this kind of skin disease has skin that is red and inflamed. The skin is covered with scales that are silvery in appearance. Red and circular patches are found on the arms, legs, trunk and scalp. Plaque psoriasis is not contagious, but it can be hereditary. Smoking, too much sun exposure, alcohol intake and having an HIV infection can affect the severity of plaque psoriasis. However, there are also certain remedies to help ease its symptoms.

    Salicylic Acid

  1. Salicylic acid helps reduce scaling and the inflammation of the skin in plaque psoriasis. It dissolves the dead skin that has built up. It is an effective antiseptic and disinfectant, which helps when the skin affected with plaque psoriasis has been infected with fungal or bacterial growths. The skin can become very itchy if infected and can aggravate the plaque psoriasis.

Three percent salycilic acid is typically used to treat plaque psoriasis. Low-strength salycilic acid must be used to prevent skin irritations. Topical ointments containing salycilic acid may also be used; just be sure to check what percentage it contains.
  2. Change in Diet

  3. A healthy diet change can help treat plaque psoriasis. There are certain diets that are targeted toward the treatment of psoriasis. A change in eating habits can help treat plaque psoriasis. However, these diet changes must be for life. A lapse can cause a sudden and severe flare-up of the disease. Eating healthy will benefit the whole body, not just the skin. A healthy body will be less prone to other types of diseases as well.

The elimination of alcohol and caffeine from the diet can help treat plaque psoriasis. It is also good to avoid foods that can cause allergies, as the itching caused by the allergies can aggravate the psoriasis. A change in diet does not necessarily mean that you have to starve yourself. A diet simply means that you will be eating certain types of food in moderation and avoiding foods that can aggravate the psoriasis.
  4. Moisturize the Skin

  5. Moisturizing the skin is the safest and easiest way to treat plaque psoriasis. Adequate moisturizing of the skin can help relieve the symptoms of plaque psoriasis by gently removing the scales on the skin and at the same time keeping it soft and moisturized. Moisturizing lotions can build up the moisture content of the skin. There are also other lotions that work by creating a protective barrier to prevent the skin from losing moisture.

Moisturizing can help reduce red and thick growths of plaque on the skin. Aside from lotions, body oils can also provide moisture to the skin. Body oils also seal moisture in the skin, thus preventing the growth of scales brought about by the psoriasis.
