Outdoor light sensors are a great way to protect your home from any intruder. The lights turn on the moment they detect movement in the immediate area. The yard will then be flooded with bright light, thereby scaring off intruders. The homeowner will also benefit from outdoor light sensors. Each time he comes home at night, the lights turn on. With the bright lights, you will be less likely to get mugged right in front of your home. You won't be groping around your bag for your keys either. Outdoor light sensors are easy to install and operate.

    Required Tools

  1. To install outdoor light sensors, you need specific tools to get the job done. Using the wrong tools can be dangerous since you will be dealing with wiring and electricity in installing the light. The tools needed to install the outdoor light sensors are needle-nose pliers and wire strippers to work on the wiring. You will also need a screwdriver and a voltage tester. Additional materials are also needed such as wire nuts, electrical tape and a silicone sealant.
  2. Position

  3. Put outdoor sensor lights on the walks leading to your front and back door, as well as the driveway. By placing them there, you are protected as you come home late at night. It can also be used in the swimming pool area. This will discourage rude neighbors from ever swimming uninvited in your pool.

For added security, the lights may be positioned in all areas covering the approach of the house. The lights must also be place in the darker areas of your property especially if you live near a wooded area. This way, you will be alerted the moment someone steps on your property. The sensor lights are best mounted 6 to 10 feet above the ground.
  4. Installation

  5. Outdoor light sensors are installed the same way regular light fixtures are installed. The first thing to do would be to turn off the power on the area you will be working on. Use the voltage tester to make sure that the power is turned off. Remove about 3/8 inches of insulation off the wires with the use of the wire stripper. Connect the black fixture wire with the black box wire. Use the needle-nose pliers to twist them together securely. Use a wire nut to cover the wires that have been twisted together. Repeat the same procedure with the white wires.

To secure the wires, cover them with about three inches of electrical tape. Place the wires back into the box and use the bolts to connect the fixture. After the fixture is in place, install the new bulbs and turn the power back on. Adjust the settings of the light sensor according to your preference.
