- Take 2 tbsp. of organic tart cherry juice each day. Tart cherry juice has been proven as an effective alternative treatment for the relief of inflammation in the body. You may also eat tart cherries, however, the actual cherries are difficult to find. Studies show that eating just 10 tart cherries each day can have a positive effect on those who suffer from chronic pain. You can purchase tart cherry juice at most health food stores as well as on the Internet. Tart cherries contain vitamin C, which reduces the alkalinity in the body, which in turn reduces the crystals that form in between the joints.
- Engage in some form of exercise each day. A regular routine of mild to moderate exercise such as walking will not only help to increase your range of motion but it will help to loosen the joints. An exercise routine should include a period of stretching both before and after your routine to prevent further aggravating the joints. Studies show that many people stop exercising because they tend to get over zealous. It is recommended that people who suffer from a chronic disease such as arthritis or gout check with their physicians before engaging in an exercise plan.
- Eat a well balanced diet containing a variety of healthy foods. Uric acid can be controlled by the type of foods that we eat and don't eat. Be sure to drink lots of water to flush out the kidneys, which in turn reduces the amount of uric acid in the blood stream. Eat low purine foods such as whole grain cereal, fruit, cheese, eggs, olives, tomatoes and green leafy vegetables. Avoid eating a lot of processed foods as well as too many organ meats including kidneys, hearts and liver.
