Flowers are an easy way to make beautiful, professional looking cakes for any occasion. Whether you are celebrating spring, a birthday for any age honoree or a tea party or hosting a garden wedding, flowers can make a simple cake reflect any mood from whimsy to elegance. Floral cake decorations can be made easily with these methods. Just choose the style that is right for your occasion and enjoy the admiration of the guests when they see the finished product.

    Molded Flowers

  1. Molded chocolate flowers are easy to make, but the finished product looks very professional. Simply melt chocolate candy wafers, found in most craft stores, fill the flower cavities and cool. Colored flowers can be made by painting the chocolate mold with colored candy melts to make the flower look more realistic or match a color scheme. Flower lollipop molds can be also fun to use. Mold the flowers on the lollipop sticks and push the sticks in the cake to make the cake seem as if the flowers are bursting out all over. Chocolate flower carts, flower pots, baskets and vase molds are also available to make the flower arrangements even more unique.
  2. Gum Drop Flowers

  3. Gumdrop flowers are very easy to make and can turn a plain cake into a whimsical garden. Simply slice gumdrops with a sharp knife into thin circles for petals. Choose a complementary color to slice for the middle of the flower. Arrange the petal slices around the center circle and add slices of green gumdrops shaped like leaves and stems. More complicated flowers can be made by using a rolling pin to flatten the gumdrops into large circles. These can be squeezed from the bottom to make a ruffled-edge flower with a small ball of icing in the center.
  4. Chocolate Clay Flowers

  5. Chocolate clay flowers can be made by adding clay rose petals to a candy base. These are a good choice for a beginner because if you make a mistake, the clay can be reused. Chocolate clay is basically melted chocolate mixed with corn syrup to make a dough-like candy. You will need to shape a candy base like a cone and then slowly add petals shaped from more clay, A small amount of petals will give you a rosebud and lots of petals will give you full, open flowers. Flowers can be made from milk, dark or white chocolate. If you choose white chocolate, colors can be mixed into the dough while kneading or dusted onto the finished flowers for a more realistic look.
