The best selling "Resident Evil" series of survival horror video games pit players against hordes of bloodthirsty zombies and monsters. "Resident Evil 3: Nemesis" for the PlayStation console introduces the Nemesis monster. The massive, deformed creature carries a rocket launcher and pursues the player's character throughout the game. The game world is a sprawling labyrinth of puzzles and enemies, and beginners might find the game difficult to play at first.

    Getting Started

  1. At the start of the game, you will have the ability to select the difficulty level. Choose "easy" if this is your first experience with a "Resident Evil" game. Easy mode gives you more ammunition, more items, infinite ink ribbons and more inventory slots. The enemies also are easier to kill.

Explore the city by unlocking doors and defeating monsters to open new areas. Investigate every area thoroughly. Items are often hidden among rubble and in dark corners. Keys and other important items often glint in the light, so keep an eye out for flashes of light when you enter a new room. If you are lost, retrace your steps to ensure that you did not miss an important item. Revisit previous areas of the game to see if new items can help you reach previously unreachable areas.
  2. Combat

  3. Avoid combat whenever possible. If you can safely run past an enemy, do so to avoid wasting bullets. When you must fight enemies, stand a safe distance away when firing your weapon. Use the appropriate weapon for the situation. Use the handgun against zombies and small enemies. Use the shotgun against larger enemies like hunters. Save your most powerful weapons, like the grenade launcher, for the Nemesis.

Master the dodge move. The dodge move allows you to avoid an enemy attack if you press one of the "R" buttons just as an enemy attacks you. The move requires precise timing, and the timing is different for each type of enemy attack; however, if you can perform the move consistently you will be much more likely to survive an enemy encounter.
  4. Nemesis

  5. When the Nemesis creature finds you, you will have to choose whether to fight or flee. Consider your situation carefully before deciding. If you have enough health sprays and ammunition to survive a long battle, you might want to fight the Nemesis. If you are low on items, you should run instead. Additionally, consider the room you are in. Narrow corridors can be more dangerous to fight in, because you will not have room to dodge.

If you choose to flee from the Nemesis, it will chase you for several rooms before it gives up. Ominous music will play to indicate the Nemesis is after you. If you enter a new room, the Nemesis will not enter the room until the camera angle shifts away from the door. Take a moment to plan your escape route before you move away from the door.
