German roaches are the most common form of cockroaches, found commonly in apartments, homes, hotels and restaurants. While there are several retail products that effectively kill and repel these roaches, items like this can be expensive, and contain harsh chemical ingredients. Instead, use natural methods to eliminate roach problems.

    Borax

  1. Borax is one of the most effective and inexpensive natural methods of getting rid of German roaches. Borax can be purchased for a few dollars per box from any grocery or hardware store, and lasts a very long time. Sprinkle the powdered borax along walls, behind furniture and appliances, and on the tops of kitchen cupboards. Stir in a little sugar to make a sweet tasting element that roaches will quickly consume. This will kill the roaches almost instantly, eliminating your roach problem within a short period of time.
  2. Catnip

  3. Catnip is an inexpensive natural roach repellent. Grow your own catnip, or purchase a few boxes in the pet section of your local grocery store. Pour the catnip around walls, in corners and above cabinets. This will work as an almost instant roach repellent, forcing roaches to find a new home to invade.
  4. Dish Detergent

  5. Dish detergent is also a natural repellent, and will kill roaches on contact. In a spray bottle, mix a solution of two cups water and two squirts liquid dish detergent. Spray the solution directly onto baseboards, cabinet tops, and behind furniture and appliances. When you see roaches, spray the solution directly on them, and they will die within a few minutes.
  6. Proper Housecleaning

  7. One of the most effective methods of eliminating German roaches is to simply keep the house as clean as possible. Collect food crumbs, vacuum regularly, wipe down kitchen counters with a disinfectant like a water and white vinegar solution (equal parts in a spray bottle). Mop floors regularly with a similar floor disinfectant, and keep bags of food sealed tightly.
