Changing Email From One ISP to Another

Changing from one Internet service provider to another often includes changing email addresses from the old company to the new. Changing from one ISP's email provider to another is an easy process which may include keeping your former email account open for a short time, or exploring options for keeping the former account open permanently in addition to using the new email account.

    Minimal Fee

  1. Many Internet service providers charge a small fee to allow users to keep an existing email account open when the customer chooses to change Internet service providers. If you use your email for conducting business, keeping contact with your child's school or simply don't want to inconvenience your friends by using a different email address, you can pay the small fee each month to your former ISP in order to keep your email account active.
  2. Automated Email Configuration

  3. If you do move your email, use the installation CD provided by the new Internet service provider to set up each email address which is associated with the new Internet service account. Incoming and outgoing Internet servers are automatically configured during the automated setup process. You will need to use the "Tools" option in your email program to delete email settings related to the previous email account.
  4. Third-Party Applications

  5. Choose a third-party application such, as True Switch, to notify friends, family and business contacts of your new email address, forward email to the new address for one month and to cancel your former email address when you have notified contacts and moved all important messages to the new email address. Third-party companies usually charge a fee to manage the migration of your email from one address to another.
