Essential Oil Recipes to Clear Up Pimples

Save

The use of essential oils to clear up pimples is an effective and natural method of fighting acne. The strong and healing oils can help reduce swelling, fight infection, disinfect germs, promote blood flow, fade discoloration and aid in skin regeneration. Though it will take a little time and regular use before you see dramatic results, the right essential oil recipe can clear up pimples significantly.

Essential Oils

Essential oils are created from plant oils using natural methods. The oils retain the scent and healing properties of the original plant, just in a concentrated form. This makes certain oils ideal for aiding in the fight against acne. Never confuse essential oils with scented oils. Scented oils are synthetic oils created for aromatic purposes. They have absolutely no healing properties and will just clog your pores and aggravate your acne.

Tea tree, lavender and sandalwood are the most popular, pimple-fighting essential oils. Tea tree essential oil is an extremely strong antiseptic that fights off every kind of infection. Lavender essential oil is a soothing antiseptic that helps increase blood flow, which helps flush away infection. Sandalwood essential oil is a mild astringent and antiseptic that also soothes irritated skin. These oils can be used alone or as base ingredients in an essential oil recipe for clearing up pimples.

General Essential Oil Recipe and Use

To create an essential oil recipe that works for all types of acne problems, including pimples and acne scars, start with a sanitized, dark glass bottle. Add 18 drops tea tree, 12 drops lavender, 12 drops sandalwood, 10 drops chamomile and 8 drops myrrh essential oils to the bottle. Secure lid on bottle and shake well to mix. This makes enough for about 60 drops, or 30 uses.

To use the recipe, just add one or two drops of the mixture to a cotton ball. Dab the cotton ball over any pimples or pimple-prone areas. Make sure your skin is clean and dry before applying the oil. Allow the oil to dry before applying anything else to the area, such as lotion. Repeat the process once in the morning and once at night.

If you find the recipe too strong for irritated or sensitive skin, you can dilute it using jojoba or vitamin E oil. These oils help heal skin without clogging pores. Using any other type of oil, such as olive oil, runs a high risk of clogging pores. Add 1 drop of jojoba or vitamin E oil for every 3 to 6 drops of essential oil in the recipe, depending on the strength desired.

Storage

Always store your acne-fighting, essential oil mixtures in a dark glass bottle with an airtight lid. Never use plastic bottles. Essential oils will react with plastic, causing a loss of nutrients. The oil will also slowly eat away at the plastic, creating holes over an extended period of time. You want the glass to be dark because sunlight can break down the oils and dark glass helps block this light. Store the bottle in a cool, dry and dark place, such as a bathroom cupboard.
