Few things are as annoying as a dripping faucet. The sound is distracting and over time a dripping faucet wastes a surprisingly large quantity of water. Every faucet, even a quality Moen product, may require periodic service to stop it from dripping. However, you will never need to replace a washer in a Moen faucet. They don't have any. Instead, you will need to replace the cartridge. It's easy, and replacement cartridges are relatively inexpensive.

    Replacement Cartridges

  1. Replacement cartridges for your Moen faucet are manufactured by a number of companies including Moen. The cartridge you will need depends on which Moen faucet model you own. Before you visit a hardware or home improvement store to purchase yours, write down the model number and take it along with you.
  2. Tools and Guidance

  3. The tools required to replace the cartridge will probably consist of a Phillips or regular screwdriver, adjustable wrench and pliers. Inside the cartridge package will be a printed set of instructions explaining how to remove the old unit and install the replacement. A specific tool list for your individual cartridge model will be included. Before you begin disassembling the faucet and removing the old cartridge, don't forget to turn off both the hot and cold water at the shutoff valves.
In basic terms, you must remove the faucet handle and cartridge retaining clip. Then, using a special tool included with the new cartridge, loosen the old unit, extract it from the faucet body and insert the new cartridge. Then reassemble the parts you removed and reattach the faucet handle.
  4. Additional Help

  5. If you need assistance or have a question, Moen has a toll free number you can call. It's available at the website. If the faucet in question was originally installed by another person, Moen maintains a completely free library of model specifications, parts lists and installation instructions at their website. Enter your model number and you can download a set for future use, even if your faucet is an older model that is no longer being manufactured.
Despite producing dozens of faucet models in both single- and two-handle configurations plus several cartridge types, Moen has still managed to make cartridge replacement easy. Their website even features animated installation videos which will walk you through each step.
