Homemade Cleaning Remedies for Clear Plastic

Cleaning clear plastic can be easy, if you know the right elements to use. Clear plastic can sometimes become stained, or develop a white film over time, so it is important to find a product that will clean the plastic without damaging it. Although there are many retail cleaning products available, they can be expensive. Instead, you can make use homemade cleaning solution that will clean effectively.

Lemon Oil

  • Lemon oil works to clean clear plastic surfaces without damaging the shiny finish of the plastic. Lemon oil can be purchased by the bottle from any hardware or grocery store and only a small amount is required to work effectively. In a spray bottle, mix a solution of 2 cups water and 1/2 cup lemon oil. Spray directly on the plastic surface, then rinse with clear water and wipe clean with a dry cloth. This will clean the plastic, remove stains and restore shine.

  • Toothpaste also cleans clear plastic surfaces. Use a white, non-gel toothpaste. Rub it on the plastic surface with a rag, using small, circular motions. Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Any film or residue will disappear, and the shiny plastic finish will be restored.

Cooking Spray

  • Cooking spray also is effective. It easily removes residue from clear plastic and restores the shiny finish. Use your normal brand of cooking spray, or purchase the cheapest available brand from your grocery store. Spray it directly onto the plastic and work it into the surface with a clean cloth. Any built-up residue will wipe away.

Baking Soda

  • Baking soda also cleans and deodorizes clear plastic, breaking up residue. Sprinkle the plastic surface with a light dusting of baking soda, and use a damp cloth to work the baking soda into the plastic surface. Wipe clean with a damp cloth, and repeat as necessary to keep the plastic in its best possible condition.
