What Is the Use of Pennington Forceps?

Maybe your friends are telling you that you should get your tongue pierced or maybe you've been thinking about it yourself for a while, but you're not sure how the whole procedure is done. One of the most important tools that the piercer will use is Pennington Forceps, which holds your tongue in place and allows for a perfect piercing.

    1. What Are Pennington Forceps?

      • Pennington forceps look like a dull pair of barber's scissors. They are made of surgical stainless steel, which makes them sterile for use on the human body. At the end, two loops make it possible to slide in your fingers. With your fingers in the loops, you can open and close the end of the forceps. The end of the forceps are flat and triangular. There is a slot in both ends of the triangle where a piercing can be placed.

      How Are Pennington Forceps Used?

      • Pennington Forceps are used in body piercings. According to The Piercing Bible: A Definitive Guide to Safe Body Piercing, the forceps hold the tissue in place so that the piercer can safely and quickly make an accurate piercing. If you are getting your tongue pierced, the Pennington Forceps will hold your tongue out. The slotted ends of the forceps will allow the piercer to place a piercing on your tongue and pierce it all the way through. Once the piercing is in, the slots on the forceps are big enough to slide over the pierce, so all the piercer has to do is open the forceps and take them off the tongue. This way, you do not instinctively draw your tongue back in the course of the piercing and the piercer does not accidentally pierce the wrong spot.
