Maytag makes a variety of electric ranges in all price ranges. Some of the units feature Maytag's Precision Cooking System, which will evenly distribute hot air throughout the oven. No matter what features your range has, you are still bound to run into difficulties. Attempt to troubleshoot the problems on your own before you contact a professional.

  1. If your Maytag Electric Range will not turn on, check if the surface and oven controls have been set correctly. Make sure that you unlocked the oven door if you just completed a self-cleaning cycle. If your oven has a delayed cooking or cleaning program, see if it has been set. Also make sure that the oven control is not set to the Sabbath Mode.
  2. Self-Cleaning System

  3. If your Maytag oven will not self-clean, make sure the cycle is not set to begin with a delayed start. Don't forget that the door of the range needs to be closed. Ensure that the unit is not set to Sabbath Mode. If the oven temperature is over 400 degrees Fahrenheit, the self-cleaning cycle will not start. Allow the unit to cool before you begin the cycle.
  4. Display Panel

  5. If you see the words "Bake" or "Lock" appearing on your Maytag display panel, there is an error or problem with your oven. Press the "Cancel" pad. If the words continue to flash, unplug the range. After waiting a few minutes, replug the plug into the outlet. If this does not solve your problem, call a Maytag repairman. A heavily soiled oven may on occasion cause a fault code during a cleaning cycle. Press the "Cancel" pad, and allow the oven to cool. When the unit is cool, wipe away any excess soil, and restart the cleaning program.
