Although families can take vacations throughout the year, most indulge while the children are out of school so they don't have to worry about their studies while they travel. The U.S. school holidays offer different options for the perfect trip depending on the time of year.

    Spring Break

  1. With the cherry blossom trees in bloom, spring is the ideal time to visit the U.S. capital. Washington offers both a fun and educational vacation.

Because the Arizona spring isn't as sweltering as the summer, it's a good time to visit the Grand Canyon. The South Rim is open all year, and visitors can enjoy camping, hiking and various places to dine.
  2. Summer Break

  3. Options for summer travel are endless because of the good weather. Consider San Diego for adventurous fun in the sun. It's home to Pacific Ocean beaches, the San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld. Legoland California is in nearby Carlsbad.

For those who enjoy a big-city atmosphere, Chicago is a perfect summer destination. Children will enjoy Navy Pier with its children's museum, carnival and boat rides and other attractions. The beach along Lake Michigan is a great place for families to relax in the heat.
  4. Winter Break

  5. Winter break is a great time to leave the cold weather behind and hit the theme parks in Orlando. The central Florida city is home to both Walt Disney World and Universal Studios, which have plenty of attractions for the whole family to enjoy. Families looking for a relaxing place to beat the winter blues can head farther south and enjoy the tropical atmosphere of Key West. Visitors can ride glass-bottom boats and enjoy magnificent views of marine life, rent Jet Skis, or spend the day sailing in the sun.
