Microsoft FrontPage 2000 is a web editing software that allows you to create websites without HTML knowledge. It looks and feels like a word processor, which makes it easier for non-programmers to learn. Using FrontPage 2000, you can add and format pages, work with themes and properties, insert tables and graphics, add hyperlinks and frames and publish your website to the Internet.

    Get Started

  1. You can create a blank web page or empty web or use an existing page or template in FrontPage 2000. To begin, select File > New > Page or Web. In the "Open a page" task pane, select the type of page you would like to create. Then choose "Empty Web" under "New" to start from scratch or "Web Site Templates" under "New from template" to utilize a template.

In the Web Site Templates dialog box, find a theme that works for you. Specify the location of your new website under options and click "OK." A Folder List pane will open on your left. The default file extension for FrontPage web files is HTM. To delete a website file you do not want, select it from the Folder List and click the "Delete" key. To open a web page, double click the file name under Folder List.
  2. Change Page Properties

  3. To change page properties, make sure you are in Page view and open "index.htm." Right click anywhere on your page and select "Page Properties." Select the "Background" tab to change properties. You can use the page properties of another page by placing a check mark beside "Get background from another page" and clicking "Browse" to navigate to the page you would like to use.
  4. Insert Tables and Graphics

  5. To insert a table in FrontPage 2000, place your cursor where you would like the table to appear. Select Table > Insert > Table from the menu and customize your table in the "Insert Table" dialog box. Click "OK" when you are finished.

To add graphics to your web page, select Insert > Picture > From File. Navigate to find the location of your graphics and click "Insert" to place it onto your page. To change the picture's properties, right click the image and select "Picture Properties."
  6. Add Hyperlinks and Frames

  7. To add hyperlinks to a text or image, select the text or image and choose Insert > Hyperlink from the menu. Under "Link to," select an option. You may link to an "Existing File or Web Page" or "Email Address." To link to another file within your website, click on the file name in the "Insert Hyperlink" dialog box and click "OK."

To use frames, select File > New > Page or Web and choose "Page Templates." Click on the "Frames Pages" tab and pick the type of frame you would like to create. Click "OK."
  8. Publish Your Website

  9. Save your file by selecting File > Save. Click "Page title" to add a page title and choose "OK." Select File > Publish from the menu, enter the website address you are publishing to and click "Publish."
