- Shampoo your hair repeatedly with a strong shampoo. Do not use shampoo that is meant for color-treated hair because it will treat the deck stain like a chemical hair color treatment. Use a long-lasting, deep-conditioning shampoo. Put shampoo on your hair, rub it in, and let it soak for at least 10 minutes. Rinse and repeat several times. Let your hair air dry. Do not use a hair dryer, as this might cause any remaining deck stain to be baked into your hair even further.
- Use swimmer's shampoo to help get deck stain out of your hair. This shampoo is designed to remove the green color from your hair that comes from swimming in too much chlorine. The shampoo is designed to remove chemical compounds from your hair and will make some of the deck stain chemicals release from your hair follicles. Swimmer's shampoo will loosen the stain, and a wash with regular shampoo will help wash it away.
- Use acetone or gasoline only as a last resort. These two substances cut through paints and stains and remove them quickly. However, they also damage your hair and can be dangerous for you. Acetone can sting, make your hair dry and brittle and get into your eyes and mouth. Gasoline can do all of those things, and it is extremely flammable. If you use acetone or gasoline, have someone else rub a small amount of the substance on a rag and then apply it directly to the stain. Let it sit for a few minutes and then immediately wash, rinse, and condition your hair twice.
