Easy Thanksgiving Desserts

Thanksgiving is a holiday filled with family, friends, fun, football---and food. Many people look forward to turkey, stuffing, cranberries and other traditional Thanksgiving dishes. Since the main courses often take time and preparation, serving desserts that are simple to make but still delicious to taste may take a "load off of your plate."

    1. Lemon Pound Cake with Berries

      • After the heaviness of a traditional Thanksgiving feast, offer your guests a lighter option for dessert. A sweet lemon pound cake can be homemade; if you aren't much of a baker or are short on time, simply pick one up from your local bakery. Place the pound cake in the center of a decorative serving plate, and surround it with mounds of fresh berries, such as raspberries, blueberries, strawberries and blackberries. Sprinkle powdered sugar over the entire dessert and serve with a fluffy side of whipped topping.

      Thanksgiving Cookies

      • Cookies are always a hit at holiday parties, especially for kids, who can just grab one and go! You have several options when serving a tray of cookies. Bake homemade sugar cookies from scratch, and then use Thanksgiving-themed cookie cutters to cut into a variety of shapes. Or take the original circular-shaped sugar cookies and use frosting and candy corn to decorate. Many grocery stores also offer rolls of pre-made cookie dough that already have holiday-themed imprints on the cookies. If you're having a lot of guests, make all three suggestions and pile them high on a decorative cookie platter.

      Pumpkin Cheesecake

      • This traditional Thanksgiving dessert is made simpler by using canned pumpkin and "no-bake" cheesecake. First, make the crust by following the instructions on the side of the cheesecake box, which you can purchase from any grocery store. Refrigerate while you take the filling mix packet from the cheesecake box and combine it with 1 cup of canned pumpkin, 3/4 cup of milk, and a pinch of cinnamon and cloves. Pour the mixture into the crust and chill until you are ready to serve. Decorate the top of your cheesecake with whipped topping and cinnamon sprinkles. Everyone will think this delicious dessert is made from scratch!
