It's most likely that you'll need a stylist to design tree braids for you. This braid and weave technique involves braiding your hair to your scalp in cornrows or braiding micro-braids that hang freely from your scalp.
Choose hair extensions in lengths of 24 inches to incorporate into your tree braids for maximum versatility. Some stylists can work with 18-inch extensions, but buy 24-inch lengths whenever possible. The reason you need such long hair additions is because they will be folded in half during the tree braiding process. Buy at least 8 ounces of human hair extensions for this style.
Tree braids are created on small sections of hair, preferably no larger than 1/2 inch. Braid extensions into your hair to a desired length, bringing a few hair strands out as you braid. Braid to the length you want, then knot the extensions to secure them. Bring the strands that were previously pulled out over the braid, blending them into the extensions. -
Once your tree braids are finished, you can wear them loose. The braiding technique makes the braids almost undetectable. Use human hair whenever possible to get the most realistic movement. You can also style your human hair weave like your own hair; it can be heat styled or chemically treated. You cannot do this with synthetic hair weaves.
Pull tree braids back into ponytails or style them in updos. When styled up, your braids will be visible at the nape of your neck.
If your extensions are made of human hair, curl your extensions with a curling iron to create a curly look. You can also flat iron human hair extensions to straighten them if your weave hair is a wet and wavy type. Braid your extension hair into 10 to 12 braids and then undo them in the morning. This is an easy way to design a wavy look that can be left loose.
