Save

Once you've decided on composite decking, it is important to know that there are different cleaning methods for composite. Oil stains are difficult no matter what surface they are on, but there is a wonderful home remedy to remove oil from composite decking.

Gathering Supplies

  • To remove an oil stain from your composite deck, get a scrub brush, a bucket filled with warm water, a bottle of vinegar and baking soda.

Treating the Oil Stain

  • Baking soda is absorbent and will soak up any of the liquid oil that is sitting on your composite decking. By sprinkling the oil stain with baking soda and letting it sit for several minutes, you are making less work for yourself when it comes to cleaning it up.

Cleaning the Oil Stain

  • Vinegar will react with the baking soda to make a foam that is an excellent detergent for breaking down and lifting away oil. Apply it directly to the baking soda, and scrub the area thoroughly. Working the water in slowly will give the homemade detergent time to break down the oils. Scrub thoroughly. Once you dump the bucket of warm water to rinse it and allow the deck to dry, there should be no evidence of the oil stain left.
