"Dietary aide" is the title of one job in the health services industry. A dietary aide's job duties may vary, but the main purpose of a dietary aide is to assist dietitians. Dietary aides, along with the dietitians, are responsible for upholding high nutritional care values for the people they serve, such as clients or patients in hospitals or group homes. A dietary aide's duties include consulting with various other health care workers about the proper dietetic needs of their patients, cooking food, delivering and setting up meal trays, dish washing, cleaning, interviewing patients to talk about their ideal food choices and also helping to plan specialized menus for patients. Some dietary aides also are in charge of the monitoring and reporting of the food consumption of some of their clients. They then may describe and report the results of the food consumption to a registered dietitian
Requirements

To be a dietary aide, you must have at least a high school diploma. It is also preferred that you have prior dietary service experience, but it is not required. It is, however, required that you know how to follow orders, be able to follow recipes, can do math, have good motor coordination and know how to read. The job also involves repetitive duties and flexible hours. It is essential that they are physically able to walk, bend, reach, stoop and lift at least 50 to 75 pounds.
There are numerous places where a dietary aide worker can choose to work. Places that readily hire dietary aides are child care centers, hospital food services, hospitals, numerous health care settings, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, the offices of physicians and other health practitioners and residential care settings.
