A sarong goes by many names such as a pareos, surong, kanga, and even a toga. Whatever your word is for sarong you know it to be versatile, comfortable, and even fashionable. Sarongs are most commonly worn in the United States as a cover-up while at the beach or pool. Just as there are many names for the sarong there is also many different ways to wear them.

    Wearing a Sarong

  1. Sarongs can be worn a variety of different ways, and can even serve as a wall hanging or a blanket without doing anything to them. To tie a sarong into a bathing suit wrap, open the sarong and hold it behind you with each hand holding an end. Then, bring the ends forward just above the waist and tie both ends together in a standard knot. A standard knot is made by crossing the two ends on top of each other and pulling one end through and then pulling it tightly. Shift the knot over to one side of the hip to make the look more fashionable.

To wear a sarong as a dress hold the sarong behind you and bring the ends forward just under the armpits. You will then fold one end toward the right side of the chest and tuck it into a bathing suit top, then bring the other end in and fold it into the other side of the bathing suit top.

To wear a sarong as a short skirt you must first fold the sarong in half. Then hold the sarong behind you and bring both ends forward. Tuck the right side under the top of the bathing suit bottoms and then tuck the other end into the left side of the bathing suit bottoms.
  2. Other Methods

  3. Other method to hold a sarong in place include using a designated "sarong tie" which is made out of a hard plastic shaped into an oval or various other shapes. The sarong tie has two holes in the center of it. To use it you will need to slide both ends of the sarong through the holes and the "sarong tie" will keep it in place. Many people prefer this method because it does not give you a big bulky knot.
