The Nikken PiMag Aqua Pour Deluxe Gravity Water System is designed to sit atop any standard hot/cold water dispenser and to be used with municipally treated water or water otherwise known to be microbiologically safe. This system comes with a microsponge filter. However, you can choose to upgrade this unit with the optional ceramic filter instead. The main benefit of the ceramic filter is that it offers a more thorough filtration of the water, but it takes much longer for the water to filter through. The microsponge will last longer, filter faster, but will not offer as much filtration.
Most of the parts need to be cleaned or prepared to be used. Never use hot water to clean or prepare them. The use of a mild detergent is only acceptable for cleaning the water tanks, but never with a sponge or anything else that could scratch the surface of them. Periodic cleaning of the tanks should be done about once a month, and they should only ever be dried with a soft cloth (not a paper towel). The filter cartridge should be rinsed with cold water for five to 10 minutes or until the water flowing through it is clear. The mineral stones should also be rinsed well in cold water and set aside on a clean surface to air dry. The filter should also be rinsed in cold running water. If you are using the microsponge filter, install it on the filter mount above the water fill tank while it is still wet to create the proper seal and prevent air bubbles from forming that will inhibit water flow. If you are using the ceramic filter, you will either need to soak it in cold water for 10 minutes or rinse it under flowing water for one to two minutes before use.
Aside from the monthly gentle washing of the water tanks, rinse the filters when they become either discolored or the water begins to have a noticeably different taste. Clean of the filters the same way as when you first got them. If or when the filter no longer rinses clean, it is time to order a replacement. Generally speaking, the microsponge should last up to five years or 20,000 liters. The Ceramic filter should last two years or 8,000 liters. The mineral stones (which help maintain the acid/alkaline balance of the filtered water) should be replaced every year or 4,000 liters. The filter cartridge, which cannot be rinsed clean for reuse, should be replaced every six months or 2,000 liters.
The water fill tank should always be filled with a pitcher. When using tap water, it should always be cold water. Hot water will damage the filters and make them not only unsuitable for safe filtration, but will cause the silver used in the filter (used to inhibit bacterial growth) to taint the water. For any troubleshooting, step-by-step instructions or replacement part item numbers for reordering, you should go to the Nikken website at www.nikken.com. Under the page for the PiMag Aqua Pour Deluxe, you will find an online copy of the manual, which includes a maintenance chart to help you keep track of when your filters and parts were last replaced.
The Aqua Pour Deluxe offers a sustainable and low impact solution to drinking water free of heavy metals, chlorine, microbacteria or any other hazards that can be found in municipal drinking water. It is gravity fed, which means that it requires no electricity to run. This unit is also made to sit atop a standard water dispenser, which allows you to customize whether or not you would like your dispenser to provide hot, cold or room temperature water, depending on your preference.
