Cleanliness is one of the most important factors influencing whether or not a customer warns friends away from your hotel. A customer is willing to settle for a less fancy hotel room if they are ensured of its cleanliness. That is, a hotel room can be as fancy as you like, but if it's dirty, your average hotel customer returns. The housekeepers you hire should know how to properly clean a room to render it immaculate.

    The Bedroom

  1. The most important piece of furniture in the bedroom is the bed, so it should receive the most attention when you clean the room. Strip the bed, and send all bed sheets and pillow cases for laundering. Do this every time you clean the room.

Remake the bed with fresh sheets. You will usually be making the bed with one fitted and one flat sheet, but in case you make the bed with two flat sheets, ensure that the bottom sheet is tucked in with "hospital corners." Anyone who has ever gone to camp or been in the military will recognize the hospital corner. This particular folding method creases the sheet under the mattress from one side, then folds the other side under, creating a tight fit.

Replace the pillowcases and the quilt, if you have one, back onto the bed. Most hotels make its beds by pulling the quilt up, folding it back and covering up the pillows with the quilt.

Clean the mirrors, televisions and all other glass surfaces with special glass cleaner. Dust any flat surfaces such as dressers and shelves. If stains are on the furniture or carpet, remove them with special cleaner. Take out the garbage, and replace everything that is normally in the room, such as laundry bags and hotel directories.
  2. The Ensuite

  3. Keep the bathroom immaculate because it is generally viewed as the dirtiest room and will usually be an area that is traversed by the customer without shoes. When cleaning the bathroom, use different cloths for each area so as not to cross-contaminate anything.

Clean the bathtub and/or the shower walls with bathroom cleaner, and change the shower curtain if needed. Clean the toilet, the seat and the surroundings well; nothing is more deterring than a dirty toilet. Clean the sink, and use glass cleaner on the mirror so it shines. Replace all the bathroom supplies that are usually provided by your hotel, such as toothpaste, toothbrushes soap and shampoo.
