The College Level Examination Program, or CLEP, exam for Introductory Business Law may seem intimidating. However, you might be surprised at how much of the material you may already know, making this CLEP exam ideal for you to study for and take. Anyone who has run a business or dealt with legal issues in business will have enough knowledge to take this test.

    What is on the Exam

  1. CLEP's Introductory to Business Law exam covers several basic subjects. The test is broken down into 25-35% on Contracts, 25-30% on Legal Environment, 10-15% on Torts, 5-10% on History and Sources of American Law and Constitutional Law, 5-10% on the American Legal Systems and Procedures, and 5-10% on miscellaneous matter.
  2. Study Materials

  3. There are several options for study materials for the Business Law CLEP. You can began with any business law book used for an introductory level class. In addition, you will want to purchase the REA Guide entitled The Best Test Prep book for Business law. REA guides are books published by the Research Education Association and are used to help students prepare for college entrance exams and other tests. This book has several practice tests and some versions come with a CD-ROM for extra practice. Business Law (Barron's Business Review Series) is another study guide you can use to prepare for the exam if you can't find or don't like the REA book. For the visual learner who tires of reading quickly, you will want to try the Standard Deviants: Business Law book which gives you the information in an entertaining video form.
  4. Pre-test

  5. Take a practice test to see if you already know enough of the material to pass the test. If you do, go ahead and schedule a test date, and only purchase a study guide to help improve your score. If you do not do well on the pre-test, read through the material, taking careful notes on important terms and concepts that you did not know on the pre-test. As contracts and legal environments make up a large part of the test, study these areas carefully, and reread your notes daily.
  6. Keep Practicing

  7. When you feel that you have learned a good amount of the information, take a practice test and review wrong answers. Study again any areas from your books and study materials where you were weak. If your test score is good (60 and up), schedule to take the test.
  8. Repeat

  9. Take another practice test and review the wrong answers. Study areas where you need help, and take another practice test. Repeat these steps until you have a satisfactory score. At this point, you can schedule your CLEP exam. You will find practice tests in your study guides and can pay for access to more practice tests at Petersons.com.
