- The island in Virtual Villagers: A New Home is supposed to be continuously simulated, even when the game is off. The only way to prevent this is by changing the game speed to pause in the options menu. In actuality, the island is not being continuously simulated. The game checks the clock time and simulates the amount of time between when the game closed and the current time. This allows the game clock to be advanced by altering the computer clock time. Exit the game and change the computer clock time forward however many hours you would like the island to be simulated. This cheat allows you to grow the island faster in real time than should actually be possible. Changing the clock backwards has no effect on the game.
- Food resources in Virtual Villagers: A New Home are supposed to be limited. It is possible to cheat this by having multiple villagers simultaneously harvest the same food resource at the same time. The game only removes food from a resource when a villager actually takes the harvested food back to the village. Any number of villagers will still be able to harvest from the food resource until the first villager actually manages to walk back to the village and drop off their food. Send every available person to harvest from the same food resource at the same time. You will end up harvesting several times more food than that particular resource actually had.
- Villagers working at the research table periodically add tech points to the village. The villager will shake slightly to indicate when tech points are being gained. The first tech point gain occurs quicker than subsequent gains. This can be manipulated to cause villagers to gain tech points faster. Watch any villagers working at the research table. Pick up a villager and put him or her back at the table anytime he or she shakes. This will result in a faster overall gain of tech points.
