There are many causes of red, dry skin including heat, cold or dry weather, sun exposure, pollution and using soap or products that irritate or dry out the face and skin. There are many home remedies that help add moisture back into the skin as well as reduce redness or irritation. Ingredients for home remedies are often found around the house or are easily found at a grocery or health food store.

    Dry Skin

  1. For dry skin, adding moisture back in is important to retain a supple and smooth looking appearance. Use a gentle exfoliator on the face and skin to remove dry flakes, carefully massaging in a circular motion to promote circulation in the skin cells. If you are sensitive to lotions or cleansers, use a creamy formula that cleans dirt, oil and makeup without stripping away valuable moisture.

Simple home remedies for dry skin include massaging the face or body with olive oil, or making a honey mask for the face. Apply a teaspoon of oil to the face and massage in, letting sit overnight to provide moisturizing to dry skin. Massage oil onto dry spots like the legs, knees, feet and elbows each night to get them soft and smooth.

Aloe vera gel is beneficial to dry skin treatments, and may be used each day to provide extra moisture to the skin.
  2. Redness

  3. For those who suffer from red skin from skin irritations such as eczema, simple home remedies may relieve redness and irritation. Eczema may appear anywhere on the body, and can worsen with stress or heat. Coconut oil is a popular home remedy for red, dry skin since it nourishes and moisturizes red areas with its fatty acids.

Apply coconut oil to the body and face each day to relieve redness and inflammation. Pure aloe vera off of the plant has also been used to treat eczema symptoms due to its moisturizing properties and effectiveness in reducing inflammation.
