Installing a paver patio in your yard is an exciting way to make your indoor space come outdoors. While you can hire someone to build your paver patio, doing it yourself can save you a lot of money. However, as you build your paver patio you will likely be faced with the challenge of how to level the patio.
Rethink your level
If you want to make your paver patio perfectly level, you will be making a mistake. Instead, you will want your paver patio to be slightly sloped. This will guarantee that rain or snow does not pool on your patio. Be sure that any moisture on your patio will be leveled away from your home.
Make a form
Use form boards to keep your pavers in line and make sure they have a slight grade. Place one on both sides of your patio. Attach a string between the two boards. Use several strings, each two feet apart. The strings and boards will allow you to see the slight level of your patio. They will also help when you are leveling the dirt beneath your pavers. Use a pre-cut board to level the dirt and sand beneath the strings.
Notice individual pavers
As you place each paver on the patio, pay attention to its level. While it is not necessary to use a level on each paver when it is placed, you will want to be sure that the corners and sides of the paver are lining up and that it is flush with the pavers on either side. Doing these things will help to ensure that your pavers are level as they are placed. It is much easier to fix mistakes as you are laying individual pavers than when the entire patio is in place.
