For teachers and parents, planning a classroom Halloween party can be a daunting task, especially when it comes to planning games that can be played by a large group of children in the relatively confined space of a classroom. But with a little thought and prep-work, coming up with a list of entertaining games for a classroom Halloween party can be pretty simple.
Appropriate games for a classroom Halloween party range from classic favorites to silly, harmless takes on the holiday.

    Bobbing for Apples

  1. No Halloween party is complete without a round of bobbing for apples, and this classic fall favorite is surprisingly easy to adapt to an ideal game for a classroom Halloween party.
To set up the bobbing for apples game, teachers and parents need simply lay several towels or old, absorbent blankets on the floor and move any desks or chairs that might be within splashing distance. Next, a metal tub filled with water should be placed in the center of the towels or blankets and filled with small apples.
To play, children simply take turns trying to catch an apple using only their mouths. While water is sure to spill over the edge of the tub, the towels and blankets should make clean-up a breeze.
  2. Hot Pumpkin

  3. This holiday spin on the the classic children's party game Hot Potato makes for a simple to plan and easy to play game for a classroom Halloween party. Parents and teachers need simply gather one small pumpkin, a CD player and a CD of Halloween-themed children's songs. To prepare a space to play Hot Pumpkin, move desks and chairs until there is enough room for all of the children to sit cross-legged in a circle. To play the game children should pass the pumpkin from person to person while the teacher plays the music. When the music stops, whoever is caught holding the pumpkin is out, until only one child, the winner, remains.
  4. Pin the Nose on the Jack-o-Lantern

  5. Another new take on an old favorite, this time Pin the Tail on the Donkey, Pin the Nose on the Jack-o-Lantern is a fun game appropriate for any classroom Halloween party.
The teacher should tape a large picture of a jack-o-lantern, minus his nose, on one of the walls in the classroom. Double-sided tape can be placed on the backside of the nose that will be used by the children instead of using a sharp pin that could hurt younger children.
To play, children take turns being blindfolded, spun around a few times by the teacher or volunteer parent, and then attempting to place the nose as close to its correct spot on the jack-o-lantern as possible. Whoever comes the closest wins.
  6. Mummy Wrap Race

  7. The Mummy Wrap Race is a great way to encourage teamwork and creative-thinking skills. All that is needed to play the Mummy Wrap Race is two to four rolls of toilet paper (depending on the age and size of the children) for each team of three players. In each team one child should be designated "the mummy," while the other two children will be working together to wrap "the mummy" with the toilet paper. The object of the game is to fully wrap the child serving as the mummy, except for his eyes, nose, and mouth, faster than the other groups. The group who completely wraps their "mummy" first wins.
