The health care industry is the one industry that seems to struggle to fill positions. If you are a qualified candidate with good references, appropriate work history and a degree or certifications in a health care field, then your chances of landing a good job are very high. Due to the high stress level and the hours associated with working in a hospital, some facilities see high employee turnover. At the same time, many individuals who work in hospitals have great staying power due in large part to a high level of job satisfaction.
Before you apply for a job in a hospital, decide if that kind of fast-paced environment is for you. Many jobs are available in hospitals, including doctors, nurses, housekeepers, admitting clerks, emergency room staff, certified nurse aides, lab techs and patient care techs. If you have the proper experience and feel that you are able to succeed in a hospital setting, then you are ready to apply for a job in a hospital. Many times who you know in the hospital can greatly increase your chances of getting hired. Call any associates that you know and pass your resume on to them in hopes that a hiring manager will be able to see it.
What you will need
Some hospitals have an online site that they prefer you apply through. You will need three professional references, a list of degrees, exact work history and any certifications. Due to tight federal and state regulations on hospitals, your prior employers and references will be contacted. If you are called for an interview and proceed through the process, you will also be expected to take and pass a comprehensive drug test. Some hospitals will take a hair sample to test the use of illicit drugs in the past 12 months. Most hospitals do seek to recruit and hire polished candidates who have demonstrated their abilities in the health care field.
