Help to Restore Deleted iPod Songs

An iPod can be a great way to take all of your favorite songs with you wherever you go. Even the smallest iPod can hold over 1000 different songs, which is far greater than you'd ever be able to fit on a standard CD. If songs are accidentally deleted from your computer's hard drive, or the iPod itself, there are a number of things you can try to restore them.

  • If songs are accidentally deleted off of your iPod, there is still a backup copy located on your computer's hard drive. When you sync your iPod to your iTunes Library, only a copy of the song files are transferred to the iPod. By simply re-syncing your iPod, you can restore the deleted songs to your device. Connect your iPod to your computer using the included USB link cable. Open iTunes and select your iPod from the "Devices" menu on the left side of the screen. Click the "Sync" button and all of the songs will be copied once again to your iPod.

iTunes Store

  • If songs that you have purchased from the iTunes Music Store become accidentally deleted from either your computer or your iPod, they can be downloaded again free of charge. Simply open iTunes and click on the "iTunes Store" icon. Type the name of the song that was accidentally deleted into the "Search" field at the top of the program window. When the appropriate song appears in the search results, click the "Download" button again. The song will be listed in your iTunes account's purchase history, so you will be free to download the song again.

  • If songs that you have ripped from CDs are accidentally deleted from either your hard drive or your iPod, they can be easily ripped to your hard drive again. Simply put a CD into your computer's CD drive and open iTunes. Once iTunes recognizes that the CD is in the drive, you will be asked whether or not you want to rip the songs contained on it to your hard drive. Click the "YES" button and any songs that were accidentally deleted will be restored to your hard drive.
